Awaken Your Inner Genius

The cardinal rule of nervous systems is that whatever you choose to emphasize always grows stronger while whatever gets ignored automatically weakens. With this in mind, if you stay mired in fixing problems all the time, all you'll see are more problems in the future. A better approach is to work hard at awakening the inner genius in yourself and in the others on your team.

Some practical ways to actually do this are:

Forget your predictions and labels, and let everyone be unique. Don't label anyone but look at what they contribute for the seeds of future greatness.

Relentlessly feedforward. Treat others on the basis of how you want them to be in the future, not how they have been.

Find ways to compliment people more frequently, at least once every fourteen days. Use small surprises to enrich their interactions with you.

Step outside your comfort zone and avoid the well established brain ruts. Do new and original things all the time.

Create teams where individualism is recognized and applauded rather than trying to get everyone seated on the same old bus.

Find out whether anything you're doing intentionally or otherwise stops others from doing their best work.

Live transparently. Honor your promises, take responsibility for your actions and be accountable for your choices.

Building a Business with Purpose

Once you figure out your purpose and philosophy, you start to see prosperity as a means to expand the range of your purpose, as opposed to a way to stop working and lounge by the pool every day. That's why someone like Bill Gates didn't get distracted when Microsoft went public on March 13, 1986. Despite the fact he was suddenly worth $350 million, Bill Gates kept on going to work every day. He transitioned from being Microsoft's CEO to its chief software architect, because that was his purpose all along. By the time he finished at Microsoft, his net worth was $50 billion.

Another good example is Michael Jordan. It's estimated he made $90 million as a basketball player over the course of his career in the 1980s. Thanks t o endorsements, Michael Jordan was worth $400 -$500 million when he retired from playing. Rather than sit on a beach, Jordan came back two years later, donating his entire annual salary to the 9/11 charities. When he couldn't play any more, he bought a basketball team. Today, Michael Jordan is worth $1.9 billion.感謝

When Sylvester Stallone wrote the script for Rocky,he was a starving actor living for $26 a week sharing a floor with ten other people. Stallone was offered $360,000 for the script in the 1970s, but he turned it down. He knew it was his purpose to play Rocky in that film, and there was no amount of money which would distract him. Rocky did turn out to be a breakthrough role and today, Sylvester Stallone is considered to be one of the most successful people in the history of Hollywood.

Turning Generosity into Action

Infectious generosity isn't solely about writing checks. In fact, many of the most awe-inspiring and infectious examples of generosity have been gifts of time, energy, talent, and love, tailored to a specific need. Generosity can take many different forms, and is open to all no matter what your financial resources are.

Here are ways to practice generosity that don't involve money:

1 Shift attention – Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh teaches that attention is the most precious gift we can give someone. Joshua Coombes, a London hairdresser, exemplifies this by offering free haircuts to homeless individuals, listening to their stories, and sharing them on social media. This simple act of paying attention created a movement.

2 Build bridges – bridging involves reaching out to those with whom we have conflicts. Dylan Marron, a social justice content creator, bridged gaps with his online trolls by conversing with them, leading to mutual understanding and also a podcast series. Craig Watts, a chicken farmer, and Leah Garces, an animal rights activist, collaborated to expose factory farming conditions, finding common ground and inspiring change.

3 Share knowledge – sharing knowledge is a powerful form of generosity. Sal Khan's creation of the highly acclaimed Khan Academy, offering free online education, is a prime example. His YouTube tutorials transformed into a global educational platform, demonstrating how sharing knowledgecan create lasting positive impacts.
